about Wanitha

Wanitha Tanasingam was born to cook! Her father was the head chef to the Malaysian Royal Family for 20 years, while from a very early age, her mother taught her the fine art of preparing traditional vegetarian food. Some of her earliest memories are of being propped up on a stool learning the difference between sour, bitter, salty and sweet!

Wanitha arrived in Australia in 1982. Her philosophy on cooking is deeply entrenched in the cultural origins of food. For her, no cooking experience is complete without exploring the historical use of the ingredients involved.

She began her professional cooking career working as a consultant to some of the top catering companies in Australia, educating them on Asian cuisine. During this time she contributed articles to several major national publications including the Sydney Morning Herald and the Food Lovers Guide to Australia. She has run her own cooking school and restaurant, and now presents as guest chef for a number of restaurants, television programs and events.

“Wanitha’s food is as exciting as her personality. Her food is a reminder of how food should taste... warm, containing friendship, giving and joy. Her friendship and love of food brings a touch of fire.”
